Scranton is a city where there’s something to do all times of the year, but there are some things that are a must if you’re a student at the University of Scranton. Up ahead we have the 11 things that every student should do before he or she graduates.
- Take a walk at Nay Aug Park
Nay Aug Park is a gorgeous place that is located at the top of Mulberry Street. It has plenty of trails to walk and a few playgrounds as well.
- Go on a retreat at Lake Chapman
The retreats hosted by the University of Scranton are spiritual, scenic and a great time. Friends and memories are made at this lake.
- Go to Mannings Farm Dairy
Mannings Farm Dairy is a local dairy farm where the Manning Family makes ice cream and it is delicious! They have tours of the farm and let visitors watch the process of making the ice cream.
- Make friends that can last a lifetime
College is hard enough with being away from home on your own for the first time, so make friends to share this amazing time of your life.
- Make friends younger than you
It’s never too late to make friends in college, but if you decide to stay for grad school and none of your undergrad friends did, it can be a lonely time trying to get back on the friend train. Keep making friends throughout the four years, and don’t worry too much if he or she is a first-year while you’re a senior.
- Establish a relationship with your professors
Become close enough with at least one or two professors that you would want to talk to them after college. They would love to hear about your life, especially since they helped you get to where you are.
- Join a club (or two or three!)
Clubs are a great way to make friends who have the same interests as you. The fun activities also give you a bit of a break from your classes.
- Go to Northern Light Espresso Bar
Even if you don’t like coffee, you can drink hot chocolate, smoothies, or eat an assortment of salads, sandwiches and baked goods. It’s also a great place to study if the library is too quiet for you.
- Go on a road trip with your friends
Nothing beats hitting the open road and exploring with friends. Even if it’s a short trip, being in a car with someone for an extended period of time is how you really get to know them (especially if he or she is the driver). As for where to go, you can head up north toward Ithaca, NY or down south and hit up Philly.
- Check out the local waterfalls
There are multiple waterfalls in the Scranton area that would blow you away. The sights they offer are amazing and can be a nice spot for some pensive thought. (I do not, however, encourage cliff diving off them.)
- And finally, have fun!
People will often say that high school are the best four years of your life, but I would disagree. College offers you more freedom and time to get to know yourself and enjoy the world around you, so make the best of it.
With all of the amazing things to do in Scranton, it’s a wonder how you would have time to do it all. If you’re a student, that’s especially true. If you do everything on this list, I guarantee you won’t regret a single second of it.
